1. Install Catchly
- Find Catchly on the Shopify App Store and click Install.
- Review the permissions Shopify shows and approve them. Catchly asks for what it needs to read your products, pages and policies, and to add chat leads to your customer list.
- Catchly opens on its Home page in your Shopify admin. You start on the Free plan. No card is needed.
The Home page is your setup checklist. It shows how many steps are done, about how long each one takes, and a card that answers Is Catchly live? with the one thing to fix if it is not. Catchly starts reading your products, pages and policies straight away, and the first step counts them as they come in. This usually takes a few minutes, and the step shows Done when it has finished. After that, product changes sync on their own. If something ever looks out of date, use Sync everything again on the Home page.
Next, pick how the AI sounds. Each tone shows a sample reply about one of your products. Only the wording changes; facts always come from your store.
2. Turn on the chat in your theme
Shopify apps add a chat to your store through an app embed, which is switched on in your theme. Catchly does most of it for you.
- On the Catchly Home page, press Open theme editor in the step Turn on the chat in your theme.
- The theme editor opens on App embeds with Catchly Sales chat already switched on.
- Press Save in the theme editor.
- Go back to Catchly. The step shows Done once your live theme has the chat. If it does not update, press Check again.
To find the setting later, go to Online Store, then Themes, then Customize, then App embeds in the left sidebar.
If you switch to a new theme, turn the Catchly app embed on in that theme too. App embeds are saved per theme.
3. Send a test chat
- On the Home page, find the step Try the chat. Tap one of the questions written from your store, or type your own.
- Ask a question the way a shopper would, such as "Do you ship to Canada?" or "Is this jacket waterproof?"
- Read the reply and look at Why it answered this way to see the store pages it used.
- If an answer is not right, use Fix this answer. See Teach the AI.
Test chats are not shown to shoppers and do not count toward your plan.
4. Check it on your store
Open your store in a private browser window, so you see it the way a new shopper does. Look for the chat button in the corner, open it and send a message. Your message appears in the Catchly inbox. If you do not see the button, read Troubleshooting.
What to set next

- Settings, Business hours: outside these hours the chat tells shoppers your team will reply by email.
- Settings, Email capture and alerts: when to ask for the shopper's email, and who gets an email when a shopper needs a person.
- Settings, Handing over to your team: words that bring in a person, and topics the AI must not discuss.
